Radio station initiates school shoe drive
The goal is to see learners dressed in a way that best represents their school and themselves.
Some 24 pairs of new school shoes were handed to learners of Sanywana High School in the Dududu area (Mjunundwini) – which achieved a 100% matric pass rate in 2022, and to Bongumbhele Senior Primary School in Malangeni last week.
The handover was an initiative of Umdoni Community Radio (online) in partnership with Gold Internet Cafe in Umzinto, Dr Nomfundo Mthuli (Dayaram Centre), The Web Cafe in Umzinto, Slindile Malimela (Umdoni Community Radio), Phumzile maShozi Zondi and Masie Ngwane (Hardware Mgai area).
This handover was close to the hearts of the online radio station members as they believe they were made by the community and it’s only fair to give back to the community.
“Our slogan is Umdoni Wabantu Radio for all, and we abide by this by giving our all to the people,” said Vuyolwethu Mangaliso from Umdoni Community Radio.
“We hope to make this an annual initiative through the love and support of any individual that wishes to assist us. Our goal is to see all learners dressed in a way that best represents their school and themselves, not forgetting to keep them motivated and boost their self-esteem.”
Umdoni Community Radio is based near Amandawe, KwaCele area on the South Coast
“We are currently operational as an online radio station and wish to grow from strength to strength, and to eventually share a bigger platform as a major radio station, so we are open to receiving any help in this regard.”
