WATCH: Uvongo lifeguards praised for saving two swimmers

One bystander said it was a 'really great feel-good story'.

Beachgoers were truly amazed at how the Uvongo lifeguards went above and beyond to save two swimmers who got caught in a rip current and were swept out to sea this morning. Anthony Hooper from Oslo Beach was at the beach when the highly emotional ordeal unfolded.

He said two men were swimming at the main beach when both were ‘swept far out to the left of the beach’. Some of the lifeguards even ‘got smashed’ on the rocks while trying to rescue the swimmers. Yet they stuck to the task or the rescue.

What was truly humbling to witness is that the lifeguards (in the group photo) didn’t want any credit for this. They wanted to give it all to the guys on the boards still in the water.  My heart felt so peaceful that they did what they did and didn’t want any credit – said Anthony.
