Ongoing search for teenager missing off Scottburgh beach

Sea conditions were rough on the day.

Police Search and Rescue are still searching for a 17-year-old male who went missing at Scottburgh Beach on Saturday, March 11.

According to NSRI Rocky Bay, reports of a drowning in progress was received at about 13:46 and the team set off to assist.

There were rough sea conditions at the time.

“Scottburgh municipal lifeguards had initiated a search,” said Linda Putter, NSRI Rocky Bay duty controller. “An NSRI Rocky Bay rescue vehicle and NSRI Rocky Bay rescue swimmers responded. The SA Police Services and Police Search and Rescue were alerted.”

Yesterday (March 12), NSRI Rocky Bay and Scottburgh municipal lifeguards assisted Police Search and Rescue in their ongoing search.

“An extensive search revealed no sign of the teenager and thoughts are with the family of the teenager in this difficult time.”

The search continues.
