Bikers join in ride for a child initiative
Dr André Hatting said they will be doing more rides for this cause
Jurgens van der Walt, the president of the local chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) and fellow bikers joined the Ride for a Child initiative recently.
Ride for a Child was started by Dr André Hatting, the CEO of Paediatric South Africa.
Paediatric South Africa was founded in 2017, to help children with medical treatments and surgeries.
“This year we are hoping to do 45 surgeries. We are also hoping to help 400 children to see specialists and thousands to see general practitioners,” said Dr Hatting.
The 7000km ride started at Northern point close to Namibia.
A group of five bikers rode through the area from February 28 to Port St Johns, and to Durban.
The South Coast President’s Council used this opportunity to show support and to encourage them on the trip ahead.
The CMA met up with them and joined the ride just before the Umtamvuna bridge in Port Edward.
They then rode together to a local pub, Hardekool for lunch and to get to know all about the initiative before riding to Hibberdene to see them off.
Van der Walt said as the council, they thought that it would be good to show the people of the South Coast that they care.
