Man stabs wife to death, then hangs himself

The family says it is not sure what could have caused this incident.

Happier times: Zinhle and Melusi Mafu were were found dead at their home in Bhomela on Thursday.

A man stabbed his wife to death then hanged himself with wire in Bhomela yesterday (Thursday) morning. The couple, Melusi and Zinhle Mafu, was found dead in their home by one of their five children.

The reason for the incident is not yet known and an official statement from Saps is awaited. Police spokesperson Sergeant Sibu Ncane said Saps would release a statement as soon as possible.

The family said it did not know what could have caused this horrific incident. The man’s sister, Nqobile Mafu, said this was a second gruesome death to have taken place in the family. In 2019, another brother bludgeoned his wife to death with a hammer. He was duly arrested and sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment.
