Margate to host second Mardi Gras this afternoon
The entertainment arena will be boosted by the Amateur Karaoke Association with more then 25 singers.
Tidy Towns Shelly to Margate will host its second Mardi Gras along the Margate beachfront this Friday (24th) starting at 17:00.
Mardi Gras was re-introduced to Margate town on Valentine’s Day (February 14) which resulted in a splendid evening attended by a whopping 1700 shoppers under the stars.
Gerrie Odendaal, founder of the Amateur Karaoke Association, said two things made this happen: The event has been moved to the beachfront (it was always in the centre of Margate Town) and most importantly, all proceeds benefit Tidy Towns Shelly to Margate.
He explained that so far, double the number of stallholders have already committed themselves to Friday’s event.
“On top of it, the Mardi Gras events is going to be complimented by multiple ‘add-ons’ to the entertainment roster,” he said.
Gerrie said the entertainment arena will be boosted by the Amateur Karaoke Association with more then 25 singers, including four professional singers, being our own Elvis Presley (Charl van Tonder), Judy Smith (never holds back), Ian King (just wow!) and Gert Potgieter (king of cross country).
“Joining these superstars are some of our top local performers on the South Coast. In between you will find line dancing and later enjoy the sparks of our local fire dancers. People of Margate, this is just the very beginning of some massive entertainment evenings for Margate,” he said.
