Lift off for Scarf flyers again
Scarf is mainly a social club and new chairman Dean Steenmans has a few fun competitions planned.
The South Coast Association of Radio Flyers (Scarf) held its annual general meeting in February. The club, like many things, has taken a knock with Covid, looting, floods and a bad economy, but now is slowly but surely getting going again. The days of a 50-strong membership may be long gone, but things are looking a lot better now, with a membership of around 20.
Dennis Steenmans resigned as chairman after many years of dedicated service to the club. He gave a comprehensive chairman’s report to thank all for their support, especially the Langton family for allowing the use of the Fredheim Flying Field at Oribi .
The new committee consists of Dean Steenmans (chairman), Albert van Eeden (vice chairman), Kitty Steenmans (secretary and treasurer) plus committee members Dennis Steenmans, Hilton Campbell, Patrick Webber, Mike Du Mollard and Kevin McGovern.
The main aim is to restore the electrical cable damaged by lightning. Good news is that last week the fault was found and things are back on track.
Various aspects were discussed at the meeting, including affiliated bodies SAMAA and RCASA. Scarf is mainly a social club and new chairman Dean has a few fun competitions planned.
Annual floating trophies were awarded: Congratulations to the following winners of the different categories: Scarf member of the year – Dean Steenmans. Most improved RC pilot – Hilton Campbell. RC pilot with best endurance – Patrick Webber. Crash dummy of the year – Patrick Webber.
After the meeting a social braai was enjoyed. All members, new and old, are welcome.
