Umdoni addresses refuse collection disruption
The landfill site is being illegally barricaded.
Since last week Umdoni‘s municipal services, particularly refuse collection, have been disrupted and delayed due to the inability to access the municipal landfill site.
“The municipality’s refuse collection trucks were stoned and roads and entrances to the landfill site were illegally barricaded,” said Umdoni’s communications manager, Sphelele Cele. “These incidences have had a devastating effect on the municipality’s ability to deliver constant services thus resulting in the current filthiness of various areas of Umdoni.”
“The municipality therefore wishes to advise residents that both the administrative and political leadership are working towards resolving this predicament and ensure reinstatement of services as soon as possible.”
Cele went on to add that the Umdoni community will be advised through councillors and social media platforms once normal operations resume.
“The municipality profusely apologises to residents and the business community for this temporary inconvenience.”
