Road repair under way in Gamalakhe
Residents of Mamkobosi are grateful that the road is getting fixed and urge Ugu to look into fixing their water pipes as the getting murky water coming out their taps.
Residents who live in Mamkobosi Road in Gamalakhe are happy that the road is finally getting fixed.
For over 10 years, the road has been full of cracks and has been severely damaged by water seeping below the surface.
Some parts of the road have trenches, which the residents had to drive through on leaving and returning to their homes as there is no alternate route.
In the last two weeks, the residents saw contractors working on the most affected section. The road was dug up and filled with gravel, which showed that work was in progress.
However, with the recent heavy rain, the road was damaged further and the gravel was removed, with some residents unable to enter or leave their yards.
Nomkhosi Shibase who owns two vehicles and uses them for scholar transport, said she had to repair her vehicles a number of times.
“I am grateful that something is going to be done about our road. As residents and vehicle owners on this street we have suffered, and have paid large amounts of money to fix our cars. I had to change my tyres every three months because of punctures. I am glad that after so many years we will be getting a new road,” said Shibase.
She thanks the ward councillor and the municipality.
Shibase said that the only issue now is that of murky water coming out of their taps. “Our water is brown and we cannot drink it. I believe that it is caused by rusted pipes. We hope that it can also be fixed,” Shibase concluded.
