MEC discusses tourism, economic development at meeting
The meeting was held at the Mtengwane Community Hall.
As part of provincial government’s Cabinet Day, the MEC of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Siboniso Duma visited Ward 21 in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, to discuss tourism and economic development in the community recently.
The meeting was held at the Mtengwane Community Hall and was attended by the chairperson of Operation Sukuma Sakhe in the ward, Sthembiso Cele and secretary, Ibrahim Shaik.
Cele said during the discussions the issue of roads as the veins of the economy and development were raised.
“We also highlighted the need to harness the potential of tourism in the area, such as Hibberdene, Umzumbe, Inala, Stick Farm, Fairview and iNtshambili which will provide an African experience to the world, under the concept of rural tourism,” said Cele.
Shaik said what is also exciting is the electrification project in the pipeline for Ward 13.
“Some 150 homes will soon be getting electricity in our ward,” said Shaik.
He said it is good to see government working with the people and as the leaders in the community, they are hoping to see the developments being put into action.
