Young leader visits Genesis, inspires hope
Young people who volunteer regularly develop a responsibility towards their community.
The next generation of young leaders possesses the power and potential to create solutions to the most pressing challenges of our time. That’s the view of Genesis Hope SA director, Jono Downham.
It follows a visit from Mishka Maharaj, a 17-year-old Port Shepstone High learner, who spent her Easter break volunteering at Genesis Hope SA. Mishka intends studying medicine next year and is passionate about helping and serving the community in order to bring about change.
She took part in the Genesis Holiday Bible Club, assisting with craft activities, the afternoon feeding programme at Murchison Community Centre, and seeing to the needs of local elderly members by assisting the health care workers from Genesis Community Care.
“As future leaders take initiative, they will experience the rewarding and fulfilling connection between effort and positive outcomes. Young people who volunteer regularly develop a responsibility towards their community and therefore become more socially and politically active adults,” said Downham.
