Hospice visits retirement village

A talk was given on the type of work hospice does.

Residents at the Widenham Retirement Village in Umkomaas were recently visited by Khanya Hospice‘s nursing manager Sr Sue van Rijsbergen and CEO Neil McDonald for an informative talk on what the non-profit organisation does for the local community.

They spoke about the free palliative nursing care that they offer to those in need, and explained that they help support families when they can.

Sr Sue went on to add that Khanya Hospice has been in the area for 38 years and relies heavily on the kind donations of people and/or companies.

“We have to pay for our vehicles, tyres, fuel and maintenance of our cars,” said Neil.

“We have our income generation projects, which are our three shops where people donate clothes, furniture, bric-a-brac or whatever they have to give away, we put those articles up for sale and that income we generate helps sustain the kind work that our nursing staff are doing.”

To donate to hospice, email hospice@khanyahospice.co.za or call 083 5978985.
