Ocean savvy friends save the day
Members from the Hardthrow Fishing Club praised the boys for saving the lives of the two women.
Three surfing buddies rescued two women caught in a strong rip current near Ramsgate Ski Boat Bay recently.
The friends Logan Alexander (10), Luke Kruger (12) and Tyler Smit (12) were surfing when they noticed the two women, in their 20s in trouble, while swimming.
The young boys, Logan who does home schooling, Luke who attends Suid Natal Primêr Skool and Tyler who goes to Southcity Christian School didn’t think twice to go the extra mile, to get the holidaymakers safely to shore.
Logan’s grandparents, Sonia and Gordon, and Luke’s father Pieter, were sitting on the beach and watched how the boys heroically leapt into action to quickly help the out of town bathers, who were drifting further and further out to sea.
There was also quite a number of people sitting at Hibiscus Cafe watching the thankfully short-lived drama.
Sonia said they couldn’t be more proud of the boys.
“It was such a fantastic team effort. Logan got the one woman onto his board and back to shore. Luke and Tyler got the other woman safely to shore. Before we knew it, everyone was safe and sound on the beach.”
Sonia said this is not the first time Logan has drawn attention to someone in trouble and it was fantastic that the trio are water wise and can think for themselves.
Members from the Hardthrow Fishing Club praised the boys, saying they were extremely proud of the youngsters and their bravery.
