Car on fire: ‘Stranger saved my life’ says Tweni woman

A Back-a-Buddy account has been set up to help Tanya get another car.

Tanya Lamprecht of Umtentweni was returning home from dropping her husband at work, driving across the Mzimkhulu River bridge, when her car caught alight.

The only problem was that she was not aware of it, until flagged down by a concerned motorist.

“A total stranger waved me down, bringing it to my attention that my car was on fire. He drove next to me and said I should get out of the vehicle as quickly as possible,” she said.

Tanya’s engine which caught alight.

Tanya believes the stranger, since identified as Charl van Niekerk, saved her life.

“I didn’t know my car was on fire. He was the only person who went the extra mile to warn me before my car burst into flames. He saved my life. I can’t thank him enough.”

Tanya, luckily, got out of the car in the nick of time.

The engine had ‘melted’ and the car, uninsured, later declared a write-off.

Her father Johnny arrived and managed to douse the flames before the fire spread to the rest of the car.

Tanya thanked Charl, Kevin Logie (who towed the car) and various security officers who helped.

Lazer 911 officers on the scene.

“It was the last thing I needed as it’s my only form of transport, but I believe God will make a way.”

There is a Back-a-Buddy account to try help Tanya, who is currently unemployed, and needs a car to get her child to school and husband to work.
