RNM promises to help residents of Vale Road

Residents live in high hopes as RNM says they are coming back to fit stormwater pipes.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) stated this Wednesday that they will be assisting the residents of Vale Road (also known as Valley Road) in Sea Park.

RNM spokesman, Simon April said the team will be installing storm water pipes to take the water away from the road and they will be repairing the driveway, which was damaged recently.

“One of the superintendents has been allocated to oversee the repair process,” he said.

Vale Road is a dirt road, and for months and even, years, patient residents have been asking the municipality for their help.

RNM left Vale Road in this state, and didn’t return to fix it.

More than a week ago, residents hope of seeing “light at the end of the tunnel” came to a grinding halt.

RNM arrived with graders and trucks, only to leave the road in a worse state than before.
Not much was achieved, as the grader got stuck in a stream breaking the water pipe (leaving residents without water for days) and fibre cable. It then took a contracted team half a day to get the grader out of the stream, only to discover oil had leaked into the stream impacting the environment.

Massive trucks carrying a crusher drove onto a resident’s fairly new driveway smashing it. The resident has battled to get anyone from RNM to acknowledge the damage.

A resident’s driveway was smashed and broken by a crusher truck.

Despite the water pipe being fixed by Ugu days later, the road has now become a nightmare and is virtually impossible to drive through. The shocking and unbearable state of the road has left residents either broken down or stuck in the ankle-deep mud.

The storm water drain, needed to get the water off the road, remain blocked.
