Pensioners can apply for rebates
An exclusion will be made for customers who are already benefiting from indigent support.
Ugu District Municipality is giving pensioners an option to apply for a reduction on service charges which was recently approved by council.
The district municipality issued a public notice recently for registered property owners who are pensioners to apply for rebates, however, certain criteria will be used to grant the rebates.
According to the notice, the criteria that will be followed will consider owners who have deeds for urban property; owners who are in possession of a letter from a tribal authority for rural areas; those who are 60 years and over; those who own one fixed property and reside in it and are South African residents.
The conditions of being awarded the rebates will depend on whether the owner has an outstanding debt and an arrangement to pay off the debt has been signed as per Credit Control and Debt Collection Policy, and the current account must be kept up to date.
The duration for the rebate is 36 months and an exclusion will be made for customers who are already benefiting from indigent support.
Application forms are available from all Ugu District Municipality Customer Service offices on weekdays from 08:30 to 16:00.
Submissions can be done via email to indigent@ugu.gov.za and all supporting documents must be certified by a commissioner of oaths and should not be older than three months.
