Peaceful protest over water issues in Koelwaters and surrounding areas

Freedom Day 2023 was a day of action for about 60 elderly residents of Koelwaters, plus a number of inhabitants of the surrounding trust land, and a group of IFP members, who all banded together for the purpose of showing their displeasure with Ugu District Municipality.
Their dissatisfaction is over the non-supply of potable water to their area. Willie Paterson, who had drawn up a service delivery memorandum to be presented to Ugu, and his wife Sue, with March Ndlovu, were the driving force behind organising the peaceful protest.
The protestors gathered near the Sipofu offramp armed with signs on which were written the reason for them protesting and drawing attention to their problem.
“It is our constitutional right to clean, potable water. Ugu has not been delivering water to this area for about the last month, but we have also been facing water issues for over two years now” he said.

After an hour, the pensioners and the other people went their separate ways, feeling satisfied that they had accomplished their goal of raising awareness of the dire water situation in their area.
