Tidy Towns South African Surf Championships got off to a great start yesterday (Monday).

Despite the water being murky brown at St Mike’s Beach there were some great conditions for a few practise sessions.

Last night’s opening function entailed a few speeches and some great live music by Element 3.

Today (Tuesday, May 16) is the first day of the contest.

Follow all the updates and results from the heats on: LiveHeats

Justin Klusener was appointed the official photographer for the contest. He is based on the South Coast and specialises as a property, event and passionate nature photographer.

Here are some shots from yesterday’s practice sessions:

Warming up!
Free flying.
Bulletproof.
Off the charts.

Catch local solo muso, Shaun Wulf tonight in the main tent at 18:00. He will be jamming until 22:00.
