Guns recovered after police pursue robbers on R102

Four men fled after they stopped their vehicle near Umzumbe.

An attempted murder case has been opened after shots were fired at police while they pursued a vehicle on the evening of Tuesday, May 23.

The occupants of the vehicle were allegedly involved in an armed robbery in Murchison.

Police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge said the driver of a silver Honda refused to stop, but eventually complied near the St Elmo’s turn-off near Umzumbe on the R102.

At least four men fled the scene. Lazer officers joined police to conduct a major search.

A rifle, handgun and the vehicle were recovered.

Lazer reported that Saps uniforms were also recovered. It is believed they used this uniform in an earlier armed robbery.

Police have opened a case of armed robbery for the Murchison incident.
