Shirelle Naidoo: Two arrested for murder of Marburg resident

The men will appearing on charges of murder and robbery in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court today (June 2).

Almost a year later, local police are pleased to confirm that a man (33) and his 25-year-old accomplice have been arrested for the murder of Sherille Naidoo of Umbango who was robbed and brutally stabbed to death on June 18, 2022.

The men will be appearing on charges of robbery and murder in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court today (Friday, June 2).

Police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge said the first accused was linked after DNA results from the murder scene connected him to a robbery case for which he had already been arrested.

It is alleged that he went to the residence of a former employer in Oslo Beach on July 25, 2020 with two other men, all of them armed with knives, and tried to gain entry into the residence.

An observant employee alerted his employer who then fired shots into the air, scaring them off.

The accused was identified as one of the men, and arrested recently. The investigating officer in this case successfully opposed bail in this case.

The second accused in the murder case was arrested today (June 1, 2023) and further arrests can be expected in the murder case.

“It is also possible that the first accused may be linked to other cases although further investigations and forensic analysis will confirm this,” said Mpinge.

The investigating officer in the murder case is Warrant Officer Coenraad van Staden of Port Shepstone Detective Services.
