  • New doors on existing cabinets are a big change without the expense. Re-staining, painting, or adding trim to flat panel doors can also revive timeworn cabinets. New hardware such knobs will also update the look.
  • Once the cabinets are sorted out, focus on the countertops, a focal point of the kitchen. Use natural stone such as  granite or marble. Less costly counter materials such as laminate or wood can also be used.
  • Change the faucet – choose a finish that matches your new cabinet hardware.
  • Another option to change the look of your kitchen is to add trim and moulding. Adorn the ceiling with crown moulding as it will add style.
  • A cost-effective facelift for your kitchen is a new wall colour. A white-walled kitchen can look new with a pop of colour. Or a neutral colour all over with a bold pop of colour on one or two walls.
  • The largest area in your kitchen is the floor, so changing this surface will create an impact.  Refinish an existing wood floor or apply a new stain colour, or look at vinyl and laminate floors that mimic other materials.
  • Add more light under cabinets and work areas to change the feel of your kitchen. Change a ceiling-mounted light fixture to a dangling pendant or a chandelier.
