Vulnerable families benefit from food parcels
These included child-headed households and homes where no one is working and families with elderly people who depend on old-age-state grants to support grandchildren
The Sihle Zikalala Development Trust (SZDT) in partnership with the Office of the Speaker of Ugu District Municipality donated about 100 food parcels to disadvantaged households of Wards 19 and 2 in Mtwalume, eNkambeni area in Umzumbe Local Municipality.
As part of their community outreach initiative, the partnering offices selected vulnerable families who deserved the donation. These included child-headed households and homes where no one is working and families with elderly people who depend on old-age-state grants to support grandchildren.
The handover was attended by the speaker, Cllr Sizwe Ngcobo, Pastor Derrick Cele of the Zulu Congressional Church, Professor Thokozani Nzimakwe, Thulani Mpanza and Ward 20 councillor, Smangele Dlamini.
Nzimakwe spoke on behalf of the Trust and said that one of their objective is to assist less fortunate families.
Cllr Ncgcobo also expressed his gratitude to the SZDT for the successful delivery of the food parcels as promised, to provide relief to many families during difficult economic times. He further thanked the ZCC church, volunteers and Ugu staff for the prominent role they played in ensuring the success of the event.
