Accolade for soccer coach

Luyanda Mncedane from Gamalakhe has bagged his first award as a professional coach at the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Academy, coaching at Nova Pioneer Midrand.

Mncedane left the South Coast in June, and in his first two months was awarded the accolade after his teams participated in a tournament with other Pitso Mosimane Soccer School campuses.
He said he was exited as he was not expecting it to happen so soon.

“It means so much to me to win this trophy because it’s my first trophy as a coach. I had no expectations as we just started and my players still have a lot to learn. They proved to me that they are a good team and I’m very proud.”

Mncedane said so far, everything is going well for him, and in the two months he has learnt a lot.

“The most important aspect that I have learnt so far is to be patient with my players and they will get better. I’ve also learnt how to collaborate with other coaches, to provide the most suitable training sessions for every age group.”

His advice to his former coaches on the South Coast is the importance of developing players from a very young age, from five to seven years. “It is also important to work on ball mastering skills to develop a young player. It is important to keep in mind that development is not playing to win matches, but to let the children or young players have fun.”

He added that when players are having fun, it means they will look forward to the next training session which will make them stick to football for the rest of their lives.
