President Cyril Ramaphosa is au fait with Ugu District Municipality’s ongoing water problems which is being actively addressed.
The president addressed the issues facing Ugu during the question and answer oral session in the National Assembly in Cape Town this week.
“The issue of Ugu is in the process of being discussed further and ways of having it addressed are also being looked at. The minister of water and sanitation is also aware of the challenges that Ugu is facing.”
Ramaphosa said it’s an urgent challenge, and it is among those municipalities in KZN that the ministry of water and sanitation is focusing on, and that he has been in discussions with the premier, as well as, the province in this matter.
“The continued challenges that are highlighted are matters of important attention and in doing so, we are in thorough discussions to see how best we can speed up the process of addressing Ugu Municipality’s problems, as they have been going on for quite a long time and communities in that area are unhappy and frustrated.”
Ramaphosa said the District Development Model is the one that is best suited to address the problem because of the co-operation required from a number of key role-players, as well as business and other community based organisations, and the municipality itself.
