Municipal jobs are not for sale

Anyone that receives a request for payment must immediately alert the police and submit all evidence in order for the perpetrators to be brought to book

It has come to the attention of Umdoni Municipality that certain individuals have allegedly been calling applicants of the Umdoni Security Services Training Programme which was closed for applications on Friday October 13, requesting an upfront payment of R4000 in some cases and in others R700 to secure a spot for the training.

The municipality informs the public that no jobs/training spots are for sale.

“Umdoni further unreservedly distances itself from this unlawful act which seeks to take advantage of desperate individuals while simultaneously putting the reputation of the municipality into disrepute,” said Umdoni’s communications manager, Sphelele Cele.

“No jobs are for sale and applicants are warned not to pay anyone for any job or training spot.”

The municipality will be calling successful applicants once the vetting and shortlisting process has been duly concluded. Anyone that has made payments are requested to open a criminal case with the police.

The municipality further condemns such action, which has a potential of grossly affecting the credibility of the programme and other initiatives by the municipality to fight the scourge of poverty and unemployment among local youth.

“Anyone that receives a request for payment must immediately alert the police and submit all evidence in order for the perpetrators to be brought to book.”
