No news on toll fees relaxation

Work is progressing well, however there has been some delays due to the heavy rainfall.

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (Sanral) is gathering facts before deciding on the relaxation of toll fees for motorists who are avoiding roadworks on Marine Drive, which is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

Sanral spokesperson Zenzele Bam said the request to relax the toll fees requires multiple stakeholders to respond and not only Sanral.

Roadworks are continuing.

“We are gathering all the facts before we can respond and it may take time,” said Bam.

The construction company Raubex has reassured motorists that it anticipates completing all sections where work is currently underway before the December peak season.
Pieter Sassanberg, senior contract manager at Raubex said they also expect to commence on a third section of roadworks between Seaslopes Road and the Sasol Garage in Margate this week.

He said due to the wide roadway in this area, they will work in the centre lane while still accommodating two-way traffic.

Work is progressing well.

“Work is progressing well, however, we had some delays due to the heavy rainfall. We anticipate completion of the three half-width sections by December 15, and then will open the entire road. There will be no roadworks between December 16 and January 10, 2024,” he added

He also confirmed that there has been no feedback with regards to the relaxation of toll fees from either the Department of Transport or Sanral.

The Oslo Beach section is almost complete.
