It was championship show weekend recently and once again Hibiscus Kennel Club had to change the venue at the last minute due to sewage spillage and run off of water due to the heavy rains.
The club is grateful to the managers of Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground for agreeing to lease the club a portion of their field and to the volunteers who moved all the heavy equipment to Uvongo and back. Many hands do make light work!
Thanks to the willing judges Jenny Hatton, Tanya Engelbrecht, Quinton Nortje and Bev Hourquebie. It’s not fun being on the field all day. All the judges have their own dogs and their own goals which they forfeit in the name of the sport.
Thanks to the De Villiers family for their continued support. Many of the prizes were sourced or made by them and Julie liaises throughout the year with the rosette manufacturer making sure they arrive in Port Shepstone on time.
Thanks to Beryl Verwoerdt for sourcing the beautiful succulents which were also part of the prizes and last but definitely not least, a huge thanks to Montego for their continued support and to Phillip their rep for attending the shows.
The organisers were certainly at a disadvantage not having a clubhouse for the admin as the wind played havoc with the paperwork and the ladies were freezing. They are a dedicated group of people.
Without the dogs and their handlers there would be no show so thanks to those who travelled from Durban to attend.
The club is proud to congratulate its own Ninette Smith and her four dogs who all received placings. Magic her young poodle is proving to be magical and took home five first places, but still has a long way to go to beat his 10 year old brother Swish who became a triple grand champion.
Their eight year old border collie sister Shimmer became a champion in agility. Flicka did not go home empty-handed with two second placings.

The club is not looking for sports winners with champion dogs, but for people who love their dogs and would like the companionship of like-minded people while spending quality time with the dog. Hibiscus Kennel Club offers training in social obedience, agility and hoopers.
