Buggy club brings colour to Margate
A community club dating back to June 2022, last Sunday's run marks their first ride of 2024.

The KZN South Coast Buggy Club brought a touch of colour to the Margate beachfront last Sunday morning.
A community club, which started in June 2022, this run marked their first ride of 2024 and their 15th ride overall, and the turnout was ideal for the club’s new year reboot.

The ride began at the Margate Pier and ended at the Old Pont on the KZN border, some 33km later.
At the beachfront, the enthusiasts gathered in the parking lot and enjoyed conversation, also observing the diversity of shapes and colours of the buggy fleet.
They then collectively began their ride at about 09:45. At their destination, games such as bag-racing and water balloon wars awaited the club.

The club typically organises one ride per month and is open to all air-cooled vehicles, where each ride takes place on a different stretch along the South Coast.
Organisers Jaco Mostert, Marius Fourie and Daniel Scheepers are also in talks for a major Christmas children’s ride in December, and plan to build momentum throughout the year.

The club also drives community outreach. In January 2023, it encouraged members to bring animal food to the ride which was then donated to the Lower South Coast SPCA as replacement for the entry fee.
Buggy or air-cooled vehicle drivers are encouraged to join the community and visitors are encouraged to come and see some unique vehicles.
