Beachgoers escape ‘water-shedding’
The sunshine, cool water, local traders, restaurants and friendly atmosphere are always a big win when visiting Scottburgh Beach.

For the majority of South Coast residents, there was no better way to escape the ongoing water-shedding issues in the suburbs than lazing around at the beach, enjoying an unlimited supply of the sparkling blue waters.
This was the order for the day for many people over the Easter weekend.
The sunshine, cool water, local traders, restaurants and friendly atmosphere are always a big win when visiting Scottburgh Beach.
Both locals and holidaymakers spent most of their time visiting the beaches and attending some of the Easter events around town from last Friday.
However, on Friday morning, community groups for Scottburgh and surrounding areas were flooded with messages from angry locals and business owners after reports of water being shut off due to a pump station fault.
Luckily, there were a few places that opened their properties to the public to collect borehole water.
The water-shedding seems to have affected everyone differently, as some people on certain roads only had a few hours a day without water while others went days without a single drop, and some were unaffected at all.
With regard to electricity, it was a relief for the country when it was announced that load shedding was suspended for the long weekend. Unfortunately, for people in parts of Park Rynie, Kelso, and Pennington, a power outage occurred around 09:00, also on Friday. Ward councillor Alan Cutten immediately reported the fault to Eskom, and about an hour later power was restored.
Usually, when such power outages happen in these areas, restoration is done hours later and sometimes takes more than a day. One of the residents on a chat group stated that the fast power restoration was indeed an ‘Easter miracle’.
The mid-South Coast accommodated many holidaymakers and the community is hoping that the next holiday period runs smoothly.
