Oil, wet weather and speed wreak havoc on KZN South Coast roads

Emergency services were kept busy with a spate of accidents at the weekend.

Several accidents occurred on the South Coast at the weekend.

One person died in a collision in Paddock yesterday (Sunday).

Glen Preston of Med-Evac said oil, water (wet weather) and speed were the three biggest contributors to the accidents.

“Paramedics attended to more than 10 accident scenes during the weekend,” he said.

He added that paramedics from Med-Evac responded to several accidents in Gamalakhe, Paddock, Southbroom, Gcilima and the P200, some more serious than others.

“One patient was trapped and extricated by Med-Evac and members of the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s Fire Department in Gcilma,” he added.

On Sunday, at the entrance to Gamalakhe, three cars were involved in a crash due to a oil spill on the road, and then a breakdown coming to the scene also lost control and rolled as a result.
