Premier celebrates Freedom day in Gamalakhe

She said the day was a historic one where African people were given freedom.

The KZN Premier, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, visited the South Coast to celebrate Freedom Day.

She visited all four local municipalities and conducted site visits of various projects under Ugu District Municipality.

The delegation, which comprised of MECs, along with Ugu Mayor Skhumbuzo Mqadi, RNM mayor Zodwa Mzindle and Umdoni Mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli, made their first stop at Malangeni Low-Cost Housing before proceeding to the Ifafa Housing Project in Umdoni.

Some of the projects visited were Msikaba water project, the electrification project in Fairview in Umzumbe, handing over of infrastructure to a bakery in Gamalakhe, a borehole project in Nyandezulu and a house project handover.

After the visits, Dube-Ncube addressed a large number of people at the TB Molefe Stadium in Gamalakhe.

She said the day was a historic one, where African people were given freedom.

“The freedom we have today took away our loved ones, blood was spilled which left widows and orphans, so we should not take it lightly.”

The Premier said Freedom Day has opened so many doors for future generations and has allowed people to live their lives.

She said what she appreciates more is also the education system that allows everyone, especially the youth to study.
