Help little Onyx of Scottburgh take his first steps

A fundraiser will be held in Melville soon.

A special Mandela Day fundraiser is set to bring the community together in support of three-year-old Onyx Matthew Maritz from Scottburgh, who urgently needs surgery to correct severe bilateral clubbed feet.

The event, titled Tea with Spirit, will take place at the Melville Sanctuary of Love (69 Beach Road, Melville) on Saturday, July 18, from 11:00 to 14:00.

Hosted by well-known clairvoyant Rosemary Ann Lindsay, Onyx’s great-grandmother, the fundraiser aims to help cover the cost of his upcoming operation.

Lindsay, who lives in Pennington and regularly visits the sanctuary to host spiritual gatherings, hopes the event will inspire kindness and generosity on Mandela Day.

Onyx was born with multiple disabilities, including severe bilateral clubbed feet, which have left him unable to walk. His family says the operation is now urgently needed, as the condition is beginning to affect his hips and spine. While he is expected to undergo further surgeries in the future, this procedure is considered the most critical to give him the opportunity to stand and walk.

His mother, Jessica Jane Wilson, said every donation, no matter the size, will help move her son one step closer to experiencing the childhood every child deserves.

Guests attending Tea with Spirit are encouraged to bring a donation as well as a plate of eats to share while enjoying an afternoon of friendship, reflection and community spirit.

All proceeds from the event will go directly towards funding Onyx’s operation.

Those unable to attend, but who wish to support can donate to Onyx’s BackaBuddy campaign, Help Onyx Take His First Steps.
