Retaining existing business vital for growth

The forum remains committed to working with relevant stakeholders to improve the lives of all citizens of the district.

The importance of retaining existing businesses was emphasised at a recent meeting between members of the Port Shepstone Business Forum and South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE).

This was particularly the case in that many existing businesses were now being run by second and third generations of the original founders.

The objective of the meeting was to explore areas of collaboration that could enhance economic activity and development in the region.

Forum CEO Vijay Naidoo said it was hoped that SCTIE would be better placed to convey the frustrations and concerns of business owners around deteriorating infrastructure and poor service delivery from both local and district municipalities.

The economic impact in terms of rates and taxes to municipal coffers and the number of jobs sustained and created by the membership of the PSBF, was highlighted.

“Despite the challenges encountered by poor local government management, the forum remains committed to working with relevant stakeholders to improve the lives of all citizens of the district,” said Naidoo.
