Sea Park family grateful for community’s help
Smartie was severely injured, dehydrated and starving.
The family of Smartie the dog, who managed to drag herself home after being caught in a snare, can’t thank the South Coast community enough for all their help.
The Bemelman family – Evelyn, Justin, Kaylan, Logan and Zoë – are so deeply moved at how South Coasters rallied together to save Smartie’s life.
The family’s much-loved pet had to fight for her life after her paw and neck were stuck in a snare.
“Badly wounded and full of maggots, she dragged herself home with extensive injuries. She was also dehydrated and starving,” explained Evelyn.
Evelyn said she did not have the funds to help Smartie and thought she would have to put her down.
But, the generous South Coast community reached deep into their pockets to help give Smartie a second chance at life.
“Smartie has since had her paw amputated and is recovering well at home, for which I am overjoyed.”
Evelyn said they also want to thank Penny Taylor and Courtney Maiden from Harmony Hills, who put out a plea for help, to which the community so kindly responded.
“Bless all the good people out there who cared and stepped in to help in my dog’s darkest hour of need, who fought so hard. I couldn’t have done it without your help. You have our deepest heartfelt gratitude. We are eternally grateful.”
