‘Today’s readers, tomorrow’s leaders’
A container library was recently donated to Sezela Primary School.
Sezela Primary School learners and staff were filled with gratitude for the donation of a container library by AVBOB recently.
This donation was received as a significant boost to literacy and educational resources.
The company proudly handed over its 70th container library, marking a continued commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for underserved schools across the country.
This initiative is part of the company’s Corporate Social Investment, which will not only enrich the lives of the learners at Sezela Primary but will also underscore the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving the goals set forth in the National Development Plan for 2030.
The newly donated library (constructed from refurbished shipping containers) by AVBOB Industries in Bloemfontein is fitted with solar panels and stocked with 3 000 books.
The principal, Reshma Brijraj, praised the incredible donation and notes the transformative potential of the library.
“Our vision is for every learner to become today’s reader and tomorrow’s leader,” she said.
“This library is a crucial resource in realising that vision. The school has committed to dedicating at least 30 minutes of each learner’s day to reading.”
The first library donation was made in 2013 to Shukumani Primary School in Tembisa, and AVBOB has since expanded its vision far beyond the initial goal of 10 libraries.
“The response from the communities and our recognition of the profound need for access to quality reading resources motivated us to extend our project,” said Carl van der Riet, CEO of AVBOB.
“Over the last decade, the container library initiative has made a profound impact, reaching more than 63 000 learners and distributing over 200 000 books across all our libraries, with a total investment nearing R35m.”
“This financial year alone, the initiative has expanded to include six additional schools, each benefiting from an investment exceeding R500 000.”
The company aims to continue its support for education and community development.
