Sassa officials suspended
According to Sassa spokesperson, Sandy Godlwana, this measure has been taken to conduct investigations into alleged misconduct.
Ten South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) employees have been suspended from the Marburg office.
Sassa KZN has confirmed the suspension.
The spokesperson, Sandy Godlwana, said this measure has been taken to conduct investigations into alleged misconduct.
“It has been considered that the presence of the employees at work may hinder the investigations. During the period of suspension, the employees will continue to receive their salary and benefits.”
She said in order to ensure business continuity officials from regional, district and neighbouring offices have been seconded to help the office maintain operations during the period of suspension.
In a matter unrelated to the suspensions, Anthony Graham said his brother-in-law went to collect his pension last Tuesday and was told that he has to re-register.
“He was registered in February and received two payments. When he went to the bank to collect his pension, there was no money in his account. He then approached the Sassa office in Marburg and was informed that he was not in the system, even though he had proof and was given a reference number. He was informed that he had to re-apply for the grant.”
Godlwana said that this is a special case and it requires the client to go to the local office for review.
She also contacted him for more details to assist him.
