Time for annual ‘smulfees’

There will be a jumble sale with a large selection of second-hand items, as well as good second-hand clothes sold at very reasonable prices.

Every year, the Dutch Reformed Church Port Shepstone holds its ‘South Coast Smulfees’ or bazaar, and this year is no exception.

It will take place at Suid-Natal High on Friday, August 9 and Saturday, August 10.

The bazaar, also called a ‘smulfees’, is a time to celebrate and serve.

“Not only do we want people to have a great time and indulge in good food, we also want to help our community,” said Dominee Jasper van der Westhuizen.

There will be a jumble sale with a large selection of second-hand items, as well as good second-hand clothes sold at very reasonable prices.

“We once again look forward to receiving orphans (this year from Rehoboth Children’s Village) as guests to spoil them a little bit,” he said.

“We would like to see their faces light up when they ride the small train, jump on the castle, and take part in games.”

The second-hand items and clothing go on sale this Friday from 15:00 to 18:00, along with delicious snacks such as pancakes, hamburgers and hot dogs.

Saturday’s activities will start with a free 2.4km fun run at 08:15. The Margate Pipes and Drums will perform at 11:00.

From 08:00 to 13:00, you can buy second-hand items and clothes and indulge in pastries, jaffels, burgers and hot dogs, pancakes, pudding, tripe and much, much more.

The dominee said it’s open to all. “Come and enjoy the time with us.”
