Fire destroys furniture building in Izingolweni

It's believed the fire started this morning before 01:00.

A fire left a furniture store building in Izingolweni in ashes earlier this morning.

K9 security officers stationed in Izingolweni tried to put out the flames but to no avail.

Ray Nkonyeni municipal (RNM) spokesperson, Simon April, said the cause of the fire is not yet known, adding that investigations are continuing.

April said the RNM’s emergency control centre received a call from a member of public reporting the fire just after midnight.

“Our fire crew was immediately dispatched, and upon arrival, they found the building was already burnt down,” said April.

He added that the fire crew dampened down burning areas and managed to contain the fire from spreading.
