Boskbok unit helps to preserve history

The unit has been honoured with numerous awards.

History must live on. That’s what inspires the Bosbok Unit of the South African Army Association. Based in Port Edward, the unit recently embarked on a cleaning project named Bosuil at the Port Shepstone Cemetery and Wall of Remembrance for Veterans.

The unit has lost five veterans in the past year and plans to place their names on the wall, combining it with a church parade. Bosuil is an ongoing project, with members eager to ensure the cemetery and wall are maintained.

There are also social get-togethers, like Kolgans, which entails a breakfast at Dolphins Pub and Grill in Glenmore on the first Saturday of every month. Veterans attending the breakfast can number anywhere between 65 and 85 members.

The breakfast meeting was held in Port Edward last Saturday.

During the association’s annual general meeting in Pretoria in July, Bosbok was honoured with various awards. Provincial chairman André Mostert handed over the awards at the September Kolgans breakfast.
