Conservancy talks about neglect at AGM
Of concern, is sewage which is contaminating rivers and threatening the lives of wildlife and people.
At the Umbango River Conservancy‘s 12th AGM held at Gate Ministries in Albersville last Saturday, the chairperson, Morgan Naidoo, said the pressing issue of environmental neglect in communities cannot be ignored.
Of concern is sewage, which is contaminating rivers and threatening the lives of wildlife and people.
“The municipality’s inadequate management of sewage and pollution has contaminated our rivers, threatening public health and our very quality of life,” said Naidoo.

He added that the alarming reality is the flow of untreated sewage into rivers every minute of the day, harming aquatic life, and the inaction of the municipality.
The conservancy demands that the municipality prioritise sewerage infrastructure upgrades and maintenance.
“We want the municipality to enforce strict pollution regulations and invest in sustainable waste management solutions.”
Some of the conservancy activities held so far this year were also discussed; among them, beach clean-ups, Arbour Day celebration, lessons on water safety, and the importance of water and illegal dumping.
Naidoo also urged people to join the conservancy as members.
