UPDATE: Electricity to be restored in Port Shepstone today, says Ray Nkonyeni Municipality

Materials to carry out repairs is being sourced from outside the area.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) is working around the clock to restore power in Port Shepstone CBD and surrounds, as some areas have not had power for more than 48 hours.

RNM spokesperson, Simon April said the outage is expected to be fixed today.

“Some materials have to be sourced outside of Port Shepstone, and unfortunately, could not be obtained yesterday.”

Furthermore, April said that according to a report he has received, the material is going to be sourced today, and the contractor will start working on it as soon as it is received.

Port Shepstone CBD and surroundings have not had electricity since last Friday morning.

The power outage is believed to be connected to the current protest by some RNM workers.

It is also alleged repairs could not be undertaken as electricians were intimidated.
