Join the coast’s recycling movement

Saving our environment begins with us.

The ongoing strike is changing the way residents dispose of their waste.

Recycling reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators, which reduces air and water pollution.

On this note, everyone is encouraged to get on board and recycle their waste at these places on the following dates:

SEA PARK
Venue: Umdoni Road, Sea Park (opposite Sayidi next to Lazer caravan).

IN A BOX;
5 tips for refuse collection challenges
1. Store any foodstuff and kitchen waste in a plastic bag in the freezer.
2. Use old bread bags or any other smaller plastic bags. Keep filling with old food, peels, etc – anything that will rot. By doing this, pests are not attracted to the premises. Freezing prevents maggots, flies, ants, rats, monkeys, and other pests who love food remains, getting into the black refuse bags.
3. On refuse collection days, take this frozen bag out of the freezer and place it into a black refuse bag before putting out for collection. By doing this, your home will remain pest-free. Also, as freezing helps with the smells, monkeys tend not to strip a bag for frozen food.
4. If you have the space in your garden, make a compost heap at the bottom of your garden for all your veggie peels, egg shells and other biodegradable stuff.
5. Don’t forget to recycle your plastic, tins, paper and glass.

Avoid littering and aim to reduce
Let’s roll out the four Rs – reuse, recycle, rethink and recover.
Reuse refers to using items more than once. Recycle means putting a product to a new use instead of throwing it away. Rethink is about considering how our actions affect the environment. Recover refers to the practice of putting waste products to use.
