WATCH: Calls for removal of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality leadership

At a march earlier today, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party demanded accountability, transparency, and urgent action to restore public trust in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

The uMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP) in the lower South Coast region marched to the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) council chambers earlier today, calling for the removal of mayor Zodwa Mzindle, speaker Phumlani Gumbi, and municipal manager Khetha Zulu.

The MKP had hoped to hand over a memorandum to the KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Rev Thulasizwe Buthelezi, however, he was not present.

Reading the memorandum, the MKP’s Ayanda Zama alleged that under the leadership of Mzindle, Gumbi and Zulu there have been a number of administrative violations.

She said with refuse not being collected in 36 wards, it creates a hazardous environment with increased risk of disease outbreaks.

“The closure of the Licensing Department affects vehicle registrations, creating inconvenience and economic losses for residents and businesses. The delay in restoring essential services, including water provision and road maintenance, has worsened residents’ quality of life,” said Zama.

The IFP joins the MKP in the protest.
