Crocodile sighting in Izingolweni spreads fear
There are concerns that the reptile will attack people or livestock.
The Nkulu community in Izingolweni is living in fear after seeing crocodiles in the area.
Two of the reptiles were spotted recently.
They say that they don’t know where they have come from, but they are worried that they will attack people, especially children or the elderly.
According to a community member, Ronnie Khomo, a crocodile was seen near Mungu Primary on a hot day.
“We fear that it will attack the children. It was also spotted in a stream leading to a river, where some children cross to and from school.”
Khomo wants the crocodile removed.

Induna Sokesimbone Cele said they have been living with the crocodiles in the area for at least two months.
“If they have escaped from the owner, we beg him or her to come and get them. We are scared for our livestock; we have contacted the police, but we haven’t heard anything back.”
Cele said as one of the elders in the community, he has never seen a crocodile in the area.
“We plead to those who can catch it, and those who have authority to do so, to help us because we feel unsettled in the area.”
The spokesperson for Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, Musa Mntambo, said a team was sent to the area last Wednesday.
He advised that if anyone spots a crocodile, contact Vumani Mthethwa on 082 5592851.
