Teen dies after head-on collision
A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened at Margate Saps for investigation.
Deangelo Korte (14), a Suid-Natal High learner who was severely injured in a head-on collision about a month ago, died in hospital last Sunday.
In the incident, which occurred on the P200 between Gamalakhe and Margate on February 26, the teenager and his father, Dean, were on their way home to Margate after collecting medication from the Gamalakhe Clinic.
Deangelo sustained critical head and chest injuries in the crash, which involved a taxi.
KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service responded to the scene, and paramedics rendered immediate medical attention to Deangelo.
Also, four people sustained serious injuries and three more minor injuries.
Speaking to the Herald on Tuesday this week, Deangelo’s mother, Peta, said her son was an outgoing child and had a lot of friends who loved him.
“Deangelo was a type 1 diabetic who was insulin dependent. He loved the beach and going on adventures. He was a child who loved music and could go all day listening to music. He would have turned 15 on July 30, ” she said.
Meanwhile, Dean is recovering well; he suffered a broken femur and had pins placed in his leg.
