Petition launched to make Margate Beach beautiful again
Eco-friendly practises for waste management, pollution control, and beach restoration are some of the requests.
The DA has launched a petition that has already garnered 2 380 supporters, and counting.
It hopes to get 10 000 people to sign up.
It says residents and concerned individuals of Margate are petitioning for the rehabilitation and revitalisation of Margate Beach, a vital community space that plays an important role in the local culture, economy, and well-being.
The petition calls on the management of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality to prioritise this project and take the necessary steps to make it a reality.

Reasons for the petition:
1 Deteriorating infrastructure: Over the years, the beach has faced significant wear and tear including being affected by the floods. Many areas have eroded and infrastructure such as walkways, railings, and public amenities are outdated or in disrepair, making it difficult for residents and visitors to fully enjoy the area.
2 Safety concerns: The current state of the beach presents safety hazards for swimmers, families, and children. Inadequate signage, damaged lifeguard stations, and poorly maintained walkways make the beach environment unsafe.
3 Economic potential: A revitalised beach would not only provide a safer, cleaner environment for locals, but will increase tourism and create more jobs. By improving infrastructure and amenities, local businesses would be boosted to generate positive economic activity in the community.
4 Community health and well-being: The beach is an essential recreational space for many residents, contributing to their mental and physical well-being. Rehabilitation would enhance its accessibility and usability, encouraging healthy outdoor activities and providing a safe, relaxing environment for families and visitors.
