Beachcombers tackled leg two of the Shoreline Challenge on Sunday.

This stretch started at Shelly Beach and finished at Lucien Beach, where volunteers from the Ivungu River Conservancy sold boerie rolls as a fundraiser.

It was a truly magical May morning to walk the coastline.

This particular stretch has been adopted by Tidy Towns Shelly to Margate and praise must go to these volunteers for keeping the beaches impressively clean.

Adding a special touch to St Mike’s and Uvongo beaches are the indigenous aloe gardens, these together with the manicured grass areas and verges have made a remarkable difference (compared to last year) to the main beaches.

The grassy foot path from St Mike’s to Uvongo Beach is beautifully maintained by Tidy Towns and Ivungu River Conservancy. It offers an opportunity to enjoy sea views and coastal vegetation.

Along the way, walkers are pleasantly surprised by the sightings of the cutest dassies sunbathing on the rocks, seabirds, blooming aloes and red hot pokers, and a loved colony of feral cats.
