Conservancy ‘dancing’ over donation of oil painting

The unique painting has been donated to the conservancy for fundraising purposes.

Drum roll… the Umtamvuna Marine Conservancy (UMC) in Port Edward is the proud owner of an original Izidro Duarte oil painting.

“A generous benefactor, who wishes to remain anonymous, donated the work for fundraising purposes,” says Helen Ueckermann, UMC vice-chairperson.

The piece, titled ‘Dance’ was commissioned in 2010 and currently hangs in the Riverbend Gallery in Ramsgate. It is priced at R25 000.

Duarte is from Marina Beach and his work has been exhibited and sold internationally.

“We are deeply appreciative of this amazing gift. When sold, it will help pay for labour and equipment to remove alien invasive plants, restore the Government Reserve to its former beauty, and educate and entertain the community regarding conservation,” says Ueckermann.
