Beach cleared of plastic
Over 1km of beach north of Black Rock near Scottburgh was cleaned,
In an effort to clean the environment, a dedicated group of community members recently gathered and collected 78 bags of large plastic debris which had washed down the rivers into the sea, and deposited into the lagoon and onto the beach by the recent heavy rains.
Over 1km of beach north of Black Rock near Scottburgh was cleared of plastic.
“One of the problems is that the Amahlongwa River is the boundary between eThekwini and Ugu/Umdoni, so this area falls a bit into ‘no-man’s land’ from a municipal point of view,” said one of the concerned locals.

The other problem is that the stretch of beach between the estuary mouth at Black Rock and Greenpoint is very difficult to access.”
Another local mentioned that they came to the conclusion that if they did not do this themselves, nobody else was going to do it, and all the debris would eventually end up back in the sea.
