Eco festival visitors enjoy nature talks at Mpenjati Nature Reserve

The day began with a morning birding walk and ended with a 'walk and talk' session on saving the wild.

Mpenjati Eco Festival goers were treated to beautiful views and interesting talks last Saturday.

The festival was held on the north bank of the Mpenjati Nature Reserve.

It was hosted by the Mpenjati Honorary Officers Group in partnership with Mpenjati Conservancy, assisted by Mzimkhulu Honorary Officers.

The day began with a morning birding walk and ended with a ‘walk and talk’ session on saving the wild.

Anna Jordan, the chairperson of Mpenjati Conservancy, has been receiving positive reviews on the festival.

“Reviews from visitors and our guest participants were glowing, with many commenting on the happy vibe. Those who stayed for the full day’s programme of events said they are looking forward to Mpenjati Eco-Festival 2026,” she said.

Jordan added that the festival was a success.

“From the large turnout for the birding walk in the early morning to the almost 20 children and adults who finished the day with a balmy, story-filled walk through the Yengele trail just before dusk. Of course, we could not have done it without the guest speakers, instructors, and guides who made up the focus of the day,” she said.

Joan Gallagher represents the Bendigo Conservancy Group.

She added that they thank Njabulo Mavundla from Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife – Mpenjati Nature Reserve, for his support.

“We also thank the food vendors who kept our bellies full and the traders who introduced us to their innovative wares and services,” she said.
